Abstract:

AMYLOID Tumor is a phenomenon which is seen as primary or secondary rare lesions. These tumors have a wide distribution and were reported in several organs, especially bones, nervous system and lungs. We report the first published case of an AMYLOID Tumor of Testis in 70 years old man.

Abstract:

Piroplasmosis is a protozoal disease that can cause acute inflammation in the horse. The disease is transmitted by ticks and spread worldwide. Measurement of acute inflammatory phase proteins is important in the diagnosis of inflammation from the disease. This study was conducted to evaluate serum AMYLOID A and Haptoglobin levels in horses with pyroplasmosis and compare them with healthy horses. 19 horses with piroplasmosis (12 males and 7 females) were identified on horseback riding around Tabriz and Ardebil in the summer. From the livestock, after taking the history, blood samples were collected from the jugular vein and the serum was isolated. Also, 18 healthy horses (negative blood samples) were also sampled with the same age and nutritional and management status as the healthy group. In each blood sample prepared after serum separation, the serumicheptoglobin and AMYLOID A values were measured on the basis of immunoassay and specific kits. The mean serumic AMYLOID A level in horses with piroplasmosis was higher than healthy horses, non significantly (p = 0. 164). The mean serum haptoglobin increased in the patient group, significantly (p = 0. 014). There was no significant difference between sex and age in serumic levels of these two parameters. The final result is that in piroplasmosis disease in the horse, the serumic levels of AMYLOID A and heptoglobin increase, and its measurement will be useful in the diagnosis and interpretation of the inflammatory process.

Abstract:

Acute Phase Proteins (APPs) are a class of serum proteins whose their concentration increase remarkably in response to infections, inflammation, trauma, neoplasia and etc. Haptoglobin (HPt) and Serum AMYLOID A (SAA) are two major APPs in horse. Since, in farms, differentiation between healthy and sick horse is so important, the present study was designed to determine the diagnostic value of APPs as sensitive biomarkers, and compare it with hematologic parameters for differentiation of healthy and sick horses in farm. According to the results of the present study, increase in the median of HPt and SAA was significant. With regard to the ROC curve, cutoff point of HPt and SAA was 0.829 and 0.6 ng/dl respectively and sensitivity and specificity in their cut off point was 86%, 87% for Hpt and 84 %, 73% for SAA In addition, Clinical Accuracy of HPt and SAA, base of area under the curve, was 0907, 0.891 respectively, In other hand, Significant difference between the clinical accuracy of HPt and SAA has not be seen, Results of the present study show that HPt and SAA measurement can be used as a screening test to determine health status in horse.

Abstract:

Somatic cell count (SCC) has been considered as the golden standard method to evaluate raw bulk milk quality for several decades. Nevertheless, SCC is neither sensitive nor specific enough to evaluate raw bulk milk. Much effort has been performed to substitute new markers in this regard. Acute phase proteins (APPs) as part of inflammatory response received too much attention as new diagnostic markers in veterinary medicine as well as subclinical mastitis in dairy cattle. Since subclinical mastitis cause unfavorable changes in milk composition, APPs would be a potential biomarkers to predict milk quality. The objectives of this study were to determine the diagnostic value of Milk AMYLOID A (MAA) for evaluating raw bulk milk quality delivered to dairy industry and to establish cut off points to detect early changes in bulk tank milk quality. The study performed on 30 random selected dairy farms delivering their bulk milk to Pegah dairy industries at Tehran province. Three milk samples collected at 3 different times to measure MAA, SCC, total protein, casein, total fat and lactose level using commercially available methods. Diagnostic sensitivity and specificity and cutoff points for each test were determined using receiver-operating characteristics (ROC) analysis. MAA was the most accurate test with a diagnostic sensitivity of 96% and specificity of 60% at cutoff point of 55.64ng/mL based on a SCC of 200×1000 cells/mL of bulk milk. The study showed that determination of MAA can be used as a potential biomarker to discriminate early unfavorable compositional change in bulk milk quality based on SCC higher than 200×1000 cells/mL of bulk milk. A significant relationship found between MAA and bulk milk protein quality traits (P<0.05).

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the changes in the serum concentrations of haptoglobin (Hp), serum AMYLOID A (SAA) and IgG, IgA in calves with diarrhea caused by rotavirus, coronavirus, Escherichia coli F5 and Eimeria species. The experiment was carried out on 40 diarrhoeic and 10 non-diarrhoeic calves (group C). A total of 13 calves were infected with rotavirus or coronavirus (group V), 12 calves withE. coli F5 (group B) and 15 calves with Eimeria species (group P). SAA and Hp levels of calves in groups V, B and P were statistically higher than group C (P<0.05). SAA and Hp levels of the group B and group P were significantly higher than the group V (P<0.05). SAA and Hp levels in group B were not significantly higher than the group P. The levels ofIgG and IgA were found to be lower in groups B and V compared to other groups. There was a negative correlation between immunoglobulins and the levels of serum Hp and SAA in groups B and V (r=-0.315 and r=-0.369, respectively, P<0.05). Serum SAA, Hp, IgA and IgG levels could be useful for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of diarrhea caused by rotavirus, coronavirus, E. coli F5 and Eimeria species.
